Saturn is a wonderful piece of Software, allowing for the design and publication of creative works around the world. So we thought we should put extra care into making sure everyone can use it, and this is how we do it.

ARIA Screen reader attributes.

Saturn uses Accessible Rich Internet Applications attributes on forms and buttons to allow users that work with screen readers to better interact with our software. We’re working on extending support for this feature in the coming updates.

Dark mode.

Dark mode is usually associated with gamers, but it’s actually a really useful accessibility tool. Dark mode reduces strain on eyes making it a more pleasant experience late at night, or if users just can’t use light mode. This feature will arrive in version 2.0 in early 2021.

High contrast elements.

We’ve started making many elements of Saturn high-contrast from buttons to text, making it easier to read. We’re working on extending support for this feature in coming updates, we’re also working to add a ‘High contrast mode’ which can be toggles on and off to your preference.

Lighthouse audits.

Lighthouse is a website auditing tool built into Chrome and Edge’s developer tools (F12), here’s the score for the login page:

These results help us to see what we need to fix, the issue found here is that aria attributes do not match their roles, this issue has been logged as S14 on the issue tracker and will be fixed in the next update.

These audits help us to find and fix accessibility issues faster than ever before. Helping us to make Saturn more accessible to everyone.

You!

As always, user feedback is a huge help when finding ways we can help you to use our software more easily. Found an issue? Let us know by submitting an issue report.
